The Catla fish we sell are typically 2.5 kg to 3.5 kg in size. These are fishes harvested by aquaculture in the ponds of Bengal, Odisha and other places. This is not the live fish that is also available in the market but normally of smaller size.

The Catla fish is delivered net excluding the head. You will get only the gada-peti-leja pieces from us. If you wish you can buy the head separately as a different product. Like most other fishes, Catla is delivered after dressing which includes cutting, cleaning, washing and packing for ready use (আঁশ ছাড়ানো, কাটা মাছ দেওয়া হয়)|

Due to cutting, cleaning of the fish and removing the head, there is a loss of about 40 to 45% in the weight of the fish. From every 1 KG fish, we deliver net 550 to 600 gram to you. This is more for Catla fish since Catla fish has a large head compared to its body size. Also larger the fish, the loss due to dressing is more. The price given here is for the net weight of fish delivered to you, hence it cannot be directly compared with the price of a whole fish purchased from the open market of Siliguri.

The fish is cut into medium-sized pieces, approximately 7 / 9 pieces are expected in a 500-gram packet.

Every 100 gram of Catla fish typically has about 110 calories of energy, it is high on protein, Dietary Fiber and Carbohydrate.
