Ridge gourd (ঝিঙ্গা)
This is a fruit that resembles cucumber but with ridges, giving rise to the name. The young fruit is used as a vegetable, whereas the mature one known in Bengali as ধুঁধুল, is used as a natural sponge. The fruit originates from eastern and southeastern Asia. There is a variety of English names with which the fruit is referred to including Ridged gourd and others. We offer young fruits to be cooked as a vegetable.
